Inspiration for the Typeface
A display typeface inspired by Pakhuis Het Veem, a 19th century
Dutch warehouse located in the western port area of Amsterdam.
It includes alternates to embody the bold and industrial feel of the
warehouse and an IJ digraph that is commonly used.
Mood Boards + Velum Sketches
Starting off, the team and I made moodboards and did type
research to figure out what we wanted our look and feel to be.
For each letterform, I used velum paper to trace the parts I
could from the control letters.
Critique + Collaborating Online
In the beginning, we started with capital letters. Then I started
exploring the descenders and cap height of the lowercase letter.
On the right, weeks later, the letters developed and I was trying
to figure out how to go about the punctuation.
Digitalization
After weeks of hand drawing the letters, it was transferred to
Adobe Illustrator CC, then transferred to glyphs.
